Research on the Situation of Roma in Hungary, 1971–2021
Interview with Gábor Havas, Sociologist
In 1970, the Council Office of the Council of Ministers commissioned sociologist István Kemény to conduct a representative survey on the situation of Roma in Hungary. The research was carried out under the auspices of the Institute of Sociology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Fieldwork began in early 1971 and was completed later that same year. The research was conducted by early-career scholars and young researchers, among them, Gábor Havas, sociologist.
On the 50th anniversary of the 1971 survey, in 2021, the OSA Archivum processed and made accessible the surviving interview transcripts from 1971, along with other archival documents related to the research. Archival reference codes: HU OSA 368 and HU OSA 369 fonds.
