Students Explore Archival Practice at Blinken OSA Archivum This Week

07/05/2025

From May 5–9, 2025, the Blinken OSA Archivum is hosting the Archival Practice (HISU5011) course , a key component of the Specialization in Archives and Evidentiary Practices. Developed by the Archivum and offered to CEU’s Department of Historical Studies and Department of Legal Studies, the specialization offers students an in-depth look into the evolving world of archival work by combining theoretical grounding with hands-on experience. Students explore how archives intersect with history, law, politics, and technology, gaining insight into recordkeeping, documentary evidence, digital preservation, and the role of archives in justice and memory-making. The specialization prepares students for careers in archives, libraries, museums, and the growing field of digital humanities.

Led by Csaba Szilágyi, Chief Archivist and Head of the Human Rights Program, the week-long course covers archival workflows, audiovisual digitization, digital tools, and the management of sensitive information. Students also engage directly with the Archivum’s unique holdings and facilities, as the institution marks its 30th anniversary this year. It is a collaborative effort by the staff of the Blinken OSA Archivum, with numerous colleagues contributing their expertise through lectures, guided tours, and practical workshops.
