Péter Forgács’s Master Video Tapes Digitized

23/02/2026
The Blinken OSA Archivum is pleased to announce that it has successfully digitized for long-term preservation the unique master video tapes of internationally-acclaimed media artist and filmmaker Péter Forgács.

The digitized collection includes Forgács’s 139 celebrated documentary and experimental works, among them the award-winning Private Hungary series, based on home movies from the 1930s to the 1960s that poignantly capture everyday lives soon disrupted by historical traumas unfolding off-screen.

Forgács, a Budapest-based artist, has created more than 30 films since 1978. His works have been exhibited worldwide and are recognized for their innovative approach to memory, history, and personal narratives. By spring 2026, the documentary films will be fully cataloged and described, making Forgács’s complete oeuvre accessible for research at the Archivum.

In the coming years, the Blinken OSA Archivum will also process and archive his raw, unedited video recordings, cataloged as HU OSA 493 Péter Forgács Films and Videos, along with extensive research materials; textual and photographic documents, hand- and typewritten notes, correspondence, and project files. Together, these resources will offer unparalleled insight into Forgács’s creative process.
